Our Purpose

Where craft
meets care.

Tame exists to revive an ancient Indian grooming tradition — and make it worthy of a modern bathroom shelf. Every comb is proof that the best tools are often the oldest ones.

In 2019, a small workshop in Pune began making wooden combs by hand. Not out of nostalgia, but out of conviction — that the plastic comb sitting on your vanity is the weakest link in your haircare routine.

Neem wood has been used in India for thousands of years. Its natural antifungal and antibacterial properties are embedded in the grain itself — before we add a single drop of oil. When a Tame comb glides through your hair, it's not just detangling. It's delivering a micro-dose of Ayurvedic care with every stroke.

We believe haircare tools should be built to outlast their owners. A Tame comb, cared for properly, will serve you for decades — and biodegrade completely when it's done. Zero plastic. Zero guilt.

What We Stand For

The Four Pillars

🪵

Craftsmanship

Every comb is shaped by hand in Pune using traditional woodworking tools passed through generations. No shortcuts.

🔍

Attention to Detail

Each tooth is individually smoothed, each edge chamfered by hand. A Tame comb passes through 12 quality checks before leaving our workshop.

🌿

Environmental Care

We source neem from sustainable farms. Zero plastic in packaging. Our combs biodegrade completely at end of life — giving back to the earth.

💎

Quality & Beauty

Haircare tools should be objects of beauty. Tame combs are designed to sit proudly on your vanity — functional art that improves with age.

Sustainability

Neem — Nature's most giving tree.

We source neem wood exclusively from farms in Maharashtra that practice responsible harvesting. Neem grows fast, needs minimal water, and its leaves, bark, and wood have been used in Indian medicine for 4,000 years.

Our packaging is 100% recycled paper. We use no plastics in production or shipping. When your comb eventually reaches the end of its long life, it returns to the earth cleanly.

Every purchase supports sustainable farming communities in rural Maharashtra — a ripple that extends far beyond your hairline.

The Science

Why Neem Wood, Specifically

Azadirachtin — the primary active compound in neem — is a proven antifungal and antibacterial agent. Unlike plastic or metal, neem wood contains these compounds in its grain, not applied to the surface.

The wood's density (650–750 kg/m³) is ideal for comb teeth — hard enough for durability, soft enough not to scratch the scalp. Its fine grain means zero static charge when combing, unlike synthetic materials.

Neem wood is naturally hydrophobic — it resists moisture absorption, preventing bacterial growth and extending the comb's functional life to decades.

The best haircare tool is one made by human hands, from a living tree, with centuries of wisdom embedded in its grain.
